Mercedes Basi in Barcelona, Spain founds Armand Basi during the 1940s, the Armand Basi design house originally sold knitwear pieces constructed of superior-quality Scottish yarn. By 1958, the brand's popularity soared, and Basi's sons, Armand and Josep, took over the business's operations and established their own factory to manufacture the brand's knitwear garments. Over the years, the growing Armand Basi brand branched out into boutiques and concession stores in Spain. It also opened stand-alone boutiques throughout Europe, Asia, and North America.

In 1987, Armand Basi expanded into the international fashion marketplace with its first women's wear collection. The ever-evolving brand continued to grow, and eventually offered men's wear, watches, accessories, handbags, sunglasses, home decor and hats that stayed true to the brand's authentic, Mediterranean styling. In 2005, Armand Basi began to offer a line of tableware and kitchen textiles in collaboration with chef Ferran Adri. The Armand Basi brand remains a top contender in the world of ready-to-wear fashion, aiming its offerings at professionals between 25 and 35 years old who appreciate the modern, urban-inspired touches the brand incorporates into its designs. Meanwhile, it's BY BASI line targets a more youthful, unorthodox demographic of fashion lovers. In 1999, Armand Basi released its first men's scent, Basi Homme. The next year, it offered its first women's fragrance, Basi Femme. As of 2014, the brand offers a total of 14 women and men's scents.
