Jean Couturier

Before launching his own successful line of fragrances, Jean Couturier started out his career working with Yves Saint Laurent in the 1960s, While working at the design house of Yves Saint Laurent, Jean Couturier helped found YSL Parfums and helped the company launch Rive Gauche in 1970. Jean Couturier met and married Jacqueline Couturier, the daughter, and granddaughter of Grasse perfumers, and together, the pair founded their own design house in 1972. In 1973, Jacky designed Coriandre, a blend of coriander and orange blossom top notes that combines lily and jasmine middle notes with musk and sandalwood base notes.

Eau Fraiche, a scent for women, was launched in 1974, and Monsieur Couturier, a leathery fragrance for men, followed in 1976. The 1981 launch of 12, a fragrance for men, brought a blend of musk, leather, and amber along with notes of geranium, fern, and lavender. Introduced in 1983, Keora blends sweet fruity notes with amber, vanilla, and musk. In 1996, Jean Couturier introduced Eau de Coriandre, a reformulated interpretation of the company's classic Coriandre fragrance. Marjolaine, launched in 1997, blends top notes of wisteria and mandarin leaf with heart notes of mimosa and water lily, and base notes of sandalwood, musk, and cedar. Jean Couturier launched Lilas Mauve, a fruity and floral fragrance, in 2001. The 2009 release of Un Jardin a Paris brought a sweet and citrusy fragrance for women that blended mandarin, lemon, sandalwood, lily, jasmine, peach, musk, & vanilla.
