Jacques Fath

Jacques Fath is synonymous with haute couture and luxury. Jacques Fath was born to a family of creative artists, illustrators, and writers, so it was natural for the young man to become interested in fashion and design. His education consisted of studying fashion in the museums of Paris and reading books on the subject. He opened his own salon, and when he was 25, presented his first fashion collection in 1937. Fath's business changed locations in Paris a number of times. However, the success of his collections grew rapidly. By the 1950s he became a favorite of models and actresses, including Greta Garbo, Ava Gardner, and Rita Hayworth. He was known as the little prince of haute couture in Paris. Fath was a mentor to a number of future legendary names in the fashion world, including Givenchy, Valentino and Guy Laroche. After Fath's death in 1953 from leukemia, the designer's widow ran the company for another four years. The company's fashion collections were curtailed, and it turned to fragrances, hosiery, and accessories.

In 1953, the House of Fath introduced its first fragrance 'Fath de Fath' striving to attract a younger audience. Fragrances were produced under the license of L'Oreal until 1992. The company changed hands multiple times after that, and each tried to recapture the tradition of luxury that Fath embodied. There are 19 perfumes in this venerable house of renowned fragrances as of August 2014. Perfumers include the notable Raphael Haury & Olivier Gillotin.
