In 1921, designer and fragrance maker Guy Laroche was born in La Rochelle, France. He went to work for Jean Desses and eventually became his assistant in 1949. He came to the U.S. to learn about ready-to-wear manufacturing methods in 1955, and, a year later, opened his own fashion house in France. Guy Laroche designed haute-couture but practical clothing for women. For the American market, he was among the first designers to create separates. Guy Laroche died on February 17th, 1989. Famous designers have ensured the continuity of the styling and image of the House, including Angelo Tarlazzi, Michel Klein, and Alber Elbaz. Today, the different product lines are created by a studio made of young and gifted designers.

Guy Laroche introduced Fidji perfume, his first women's fragrance, in 1966. J'ai Ose perfume for women followed in 1977. Launched in 1982, Drakkar Noir cologne for men is a long-lasting pro en fragrance that has become a tried and true classic over the years. Additionally, Laroche rolled out Clandestine in 1982, and Horizon colognes in 1993.
