Geoffrey Beene

On August 30, 1927, Geoffrey Beene was born in Haynesville, Louisiana. After attending the Traphagen School of Fashion, he built his career as a designer in Paris and New York at fashion houses including Harmony and Teal Traina. In 1963, he started his own company, Geoffrey Beene Inc and was quickly dressing celebrities and influencers like Nancy Reagan, Lady Bird Johnson, Pat Nixon, Glenn Close, and Faye Dunaway. Beene was renowned for designing structured styles that were never rigid and for his creative use of both conservative and luxury fabrics. His career in fashion design spanned more than 40 years and in 1995, Beene was honored with a nomination for 'Designer of the Century and Beyond' by Fashion Group International. He died on September 28, 2004, due to complications from pneumonia.

Geoffrey Beene personally developed his first fragrance, one of the very first designer colognes for men 'the elegant', sophisticated Grey Flannel, which launched in 1975. Other scents created under the Geoffrey Beene name include the crisp, green floral Geoffrey Beene Perfume (1998), and Chance Geoffrey Beene (1994), a fruity floral with notes of spice and woods. Men's scents in the line are Grey Flannel (1976), Bowling Green (1987) and Eau de Grey Flannel (1996).
